Caesar's Civil War Prior to his Civil War. Caesar went on an year long illegal war against the Gauls in which he subdued the entire people group. Gaul was modem day France, Swilzedand, and all other modem nation states west of the Rhine River. Caesar won this iilegs war and became the chamgion of the common people, but wen he started to head back to Rome, he received a letter from the Senate saying that he must lay down his arms and relurn lo Rame to be iried as oriminal. Csesar siid no, and marched in Rome, which was illegal by Roman law, he enterad Roman teritory by crossing the Rubicon River and thus beginning the war, a decision from which no ane could return, snd one that has stlacted people for of time.
